The media laptop will be playing the finished field report as a video clip to one of the HDMI inputs on the HS-3200. This is the same workflow that we set up in Production Activity 7 to play b-roll for the news show.

Audio

HDMI cables are capable of carrying both video and audio signals. However, for a live video production, the audio from a video clip needs to be routed separately to the audio mixer so that the sound engineer can mix all the other live audio sources.

Connecting the Laptop AUX Output to the Sound Mixer

Your media laptop will most likely have a 3.5mm aux audio port, which is a technical way of saying headphone jack. An MP3 player or Smartphone has a similar headphone jack port. Here, you will connect your AUX 3.5mm to 3.5mm cable.

In a workflow with a Yamaha MG-10 audio mixer, you have two options for input connections: 3-pin XLR or 1/4. You can convert your aux cable to either type. It is easier to use and acquire an adapter for the 3.5mm to 1/4 input.
