In the lower right corner of the HS-1400's screen is a status panel that is always visible, with its content updating in real time as operations are performed. The status panel displays audio status, the selected camera and its movement speed setting, the transition style and auto-transition duration, the Logo 1 and 2 images currently in use, the recording and streaming status, and the current time and date.
Pressing the Menu key opens the HS-1400's on-screen menu.
Entering Transition — here you can select the transition style, adjust the auto-transition duration in seconds, set the softness of the Wipe border, configure the FTB duration, and assign the insert source for the Dip transition.
Entering Audio — Master enables or disables PGM audio output and adjusts the master volume. PIP enables or disables audio output from the PIP source. Inputs 1 through 4, Media, RCA, and XLR each include an on/off switch and volume control, along with Audio Follow Video and audio delay settings. Headphone and Speaker allow you to select the audio monitoring source for each output.
Entering Image — Pattern selects the source for the Still image, and Logo selects the source for Logo 1 and 2. For both, you must first select which device to read content from — the options are the HS-1400's internal memory, an SD card, or an external USB device. The device is selected by moving the joystick left or right. Please note that during this operation, none of CAM 1 through 4 may have their indicator lit red; otherwise the joystick will prioritize executing Pan and Tilt camera movements.
Returning to Pattern — after using the joystick to select the device to read from, use the directional keys to select the desired image, press Enter, then select Apply. The selected image will then appear in the Still position on the multiviewer. Delete removes the selected image.
For Logo — after selecting the image to use as a logo, press Enter, then designate whether to place the image on the Logo 1 or Logo 2 layer, and press Enter again to confirm. The Logo 1 and 2 settings below allow you to adjust the size and position of each Logo layer. As with Pattern, take care to check that none of the CAM 1 through 4 indicators are lit red when using the joystick to adjust position.
Entering Media — Video selects the source for the Media input. As before, first select the device to read from, then select the video file, and choose Play to see the selected video appear in the Media position on the multiviewer. If the selected device is an SD card or external USB device, video files can be imported into the HS-1400's internal memory using the Import option.
Playback allows you to choose between looping a single video or cycling through a playlist, and whether playback should restart automatically from the beginning after a video ends.
Record allows you to set the recording bitrate, configure the high, medium, and low values assigned to the hardware bitrate button, select the recording frame rate and file format, set the preferred recording destination between an SD card and an external USB device, format the SD card or external USB device directly from this menu, and configure the automatic file segmentation interval.
Push Stream operates similarly to Record, with the addition of options to enable or disable the primary stream and secondary stream.
Pull Stream and NDI both allow you to select the source to be brought in as a Media input. Webcam allows you to select an externally connected USB webcam. Server displays the streaming destination and stream key that have been configured in the Web UI.
Entering PIP — PIP 1 and PIP 2 share the same set of controls. Source selects the input source for the PIP window. Size and Position sets the size of the PIP window, and Custom W/H below allows you to define a custom width and height when Custom is selected under Size and Position. For Crop, use the joystick to move the PIP window to the desired position, and use the up and down directional keys to adjust the zoom level.
PIP 1 and PIP 2 Border share the same controls, allowing you to adjust the color and width of the PIP window border. Under Border Color, use the left and right directional keys to control the triangular indicator, and the joystick to adjust the circular indicator.
Meeting is an alternative PIP layout that arranges Inputs 1 through 4 simultaneously across the PGM or PVW output. Four Meeting PIP layout styles are available.
Entering Downstream key — here you can select the Downstream key source and fill signal. Parameter provides fine-tuning options and an invert toggle. Mask allows you to set the position and size of the mask. Please note that Mask must first be enabled before any adjustments will take effect.
Entering Chroma — first select the keying source signal. Color sets the color to be keyed out. For Pick Color, entering this option will display a circular marker in the Key Source position on the multiviewer — use the joystick to move the marker to the color you wish to key out. Similarity and Smooth provide fine-tuning controls for the keying edge. The Mask controls here operate in the same way as those in Downstream key.
Entering Luma — first select the keying source signal. Threshold and Gain provide fine-tuning controls. Inverse enables the invert function. The Mask controls operate in the same way as those in Chroma and will not be repeated.
Entering Camera — first select the camera position you wish to connect or configure. If a camera is already connected, its IP address will be visible here. Search initiates the camera connection procedure — please refer to the camera control section for detailed steps. Cam IP allows you to manually enter the IP address of the camera you wish to connect. Cam Ctrl. allows you to select the communication protocol for the camera connection. Communication settings are recommended to be left at their defaults. Speed allows you to specify the Pan and Tilt movement speed, as well as configure the speed levels for the three Camera Speed buttons.
The Focus, Exposure, and WB items below are provided for reference when numerical values need to be monitored; otherwise it is recommended to operate these directly from the front panel.
Preset allows you to quickly save and recall Presets 1 through 6.
The first three items under Auto Tracking correspond to hardware buttons on the front panel. Auto Tracking Subject should be used in conjunction with Detected Indicator below it. When Auto-Tracking is active and more than one person appears in the frame, green bounding boxes will appear around each detected subject. Use the left and right controls under Auto Tracking Subject to select the desired tracking target, then press Select to confirm. If you do not wish the bounding boxes to appear, set Detected Indicator to Off.
Under Mode, currently only the Production Mode option is available. If Auto Zoom and Auto Tilt are disabled, the camera will only perform Pan movements while Auto-Tracking is active.
For Start Position — if set to the current position, the camera will begin Auto-Tracking movement from its current position when Auto-Tracking is activated. If set to a Preset position, the camera will first move to the selected Preset position before beginning Auto-Tracking movement.
If OSD Reminder is enabled, a text notification will appear in the upper left corner of the screen each time Auto-Tracking is activated.
Entering Interface — under View, MV View changes the multiviewer layout on the built-in screen to a vertical style, while Stream View changes the layout of the outgoing stream. Out Source configures the output content for the rear panel HDMI Auxiliary, SDI Auxiliary, and the built-in LCD screen Auxiliary outputs. Out Format sets the frame rate of the PGM output. Input allows you to select whether each of the four input channels should prioritize HDMI or SDI as its input source. Flip enables image flipping for Inputs 1 through 4 and Media.
Entering User — here you can save and recall user memories 1 through 6. Macro 1 and 2 are two programmable action macros. Use Record to capture a sequence of hardware button operations — such as enabling PIP, adding a logo, activating Downstream key, or switching scenes. Once recorded, use Run to execute the saved Macro sequence. You can also choose whether the Macro should loop continuously.
Entering Monitor — this section provides adjustments specific to the built-in screen. The first two items adjust the color and brightness of the HS-1400's built-in screen. Marker allows you to enable various overlay guidelines. The final two items adjust the color and thickness of the guidelines.
Entering Setting — System allows you to configure the system language, hardware fan behavior, screen backlight, button backlight, custom time settings, and factory reset. Network handles DHCP on/off and custom IP and other network settings. Joystick, Seesaw, and T-Bar provide hardware calibration options. NDI and Version are read-only information displays.
This concludes the menu guide for the HS-1400.
