My courses

To give a lecture on Micro-Course, UOOC and MOOC platforms, the teacher must first familiarize themselves with online education theory and the platform tool. The teacher should also know that a new teaching model requires an innovative course outline and the traditional teaching method can never be used in Flipped Classroom. Teaching goals, an appropriate teaching method for online learning, tests and assessment should be considered for micro-Course, UOOC or MOOC.

Attitude towards education is changing.

Teaching Goals

The UOOC, Micro-Course and MOOC lectures do not progress like how students are taught in the traditional classroom. The online video tutorials are supposed to be short and will usually be viewed repeatedly; thus, the teaching method should be simple in such a way that the students can understand the materials easily. Basically the teacher should finish presenting a small knowledge node within a short time and not talk about too many theories at once. It is almost impossible to finish teaching high number of theories and conveying massive amount of information within a short time. If the video length is increased, students might lose their passion for learning during the learning process.

Students find it difficult to concentrate while viewing long video.

Teaching Methods

Online teaching involves a lot of video activities. The teacher has his own way tackling with the lecture, a symposium and video course but it will take time to become familiar with different video types. Sometimes questions will be posted to the platform forum and the teacher has to be able to answer them, thus being able to interact with students is also an important part of online teaching. UOOC, Micro-Course and MOOC are usually taught on online platforms but there are other activities that do not require Internet connection, for example joining a reading group, participating in outdoor activities, sharing opinions after reading and etc. These “Offline” activities allow students to influence and interact with one another so that they will not feel alone while learning online and give up halfway. Of course, if the Flipped Classroom is included, the effect of online teaching can be enhanced.

Offline activities will supplement online learning.

Test and Assessment

There are generally two types of test and assessment in MOOC. One type is the in-class random test in the video and another type is the assignment to be done at home after finishing watching the video. The purpose of the in-class test is to keep the attention of students viewing the video and make sure the students have fully grasped the knowledge taught in the video. Take-home assignments give the students opportunities to show what they have gained from the video course by answering essay questions or even goal-oriented questions involving innovation. These questions will stimulate the students to use the learned knowledge and extend it to other or similar fields.

Tests are not just for assessing students but also a way to learn.
